Workshop

We have just finished our first unit in math on adding and subtracting fractions. Unfortunately with curriculum and other requirements there were certain topics that we could not review. So for workshop I created a checklist of activities for them to do. Here are the first two that I have created. The first one is for pre assessment purposes. We do not have time to take any pre assessments but I still need to know what they don't know and what they do know.

Group Roles

I am trying to get a head start on my second week of lesson plans where we start diving in to content. When working on lesson plans I decided that group roles would be helpful for my students. I looked on Pinterest but couldn't find one that I liked so I created one myself. I am sure the definitions of the roles are the same for many.  I am excited to use it with my students this year. Group Roles

Figure Me Out
Since I am teaching math this year I wanted to have a fun get to know you activity that also incorporated math. I found a few cute ones via teacher pay teachers but none that I really liked. So I took their ideas and made one of my own. Super excited for my students to complete them and have fun! Figure me out
I am about to begin my second year as a 5th grade teacher. Although some things are the same ( same classroom, and grade), a lot has changed ( new teammates, new subject teaching and new boss). However I am so excited to  start this school year. I am hoping that this year I can update my blog more often and share my experiences.

Saw my classroom!!

I'm so excited that I got the opportunity to see my classroom and the building.  Since I am new and there was no teacher for meet the parent night one of the other fifth grade teachers did some decorating in my classroom. I have to say they did a pretty nice job and I will keep some of it up. However now that I have seen my classroom and the other classrooms I am completely overwhelmed!! The other classrooms look amazing!! Plus there is another new teacher with me so I don't feel completely alone in this overload of excitement and anxiousness.
After teaching preschool for five years I am moving up to fifth grade! I am excited to start this adventure and thought I would document the experience. I have just started gathering my thoughts and figuring out all that needs to be done. So far I have started out on my substitute binder, I have class jobs, figured out class theme, and gathering lots of ideas!!
